South Korea Launches Digital Nomad Visa (F-D1)

In our spotlight on APAC series, we round up the latest developments across the Asia Pacific Region.

South Korea has officially introduced its Digital Nomad Visa (F-D1), providing greater opportunities for foreign nationals employed by overseas companies to live in South Korea while working remotely. The visa does not permit holders to be employed by a South Korean company or undertake work for a South Korean employer. Eligible family members including a legally married spouse and unmarried children under the age of 19, may accompany the digital nomad visa holder.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Age 18 years above
  • Must have been employed by a foreign company (or own a foreign company) for more than 1 year and able to work remotely in Korea
  • Must meet the applicable income threshold based on age and planned residence location
  • Clean criminal record – no disqualifying convictions
  • Medical insurance – must cover at least $75,000 USD for medical and repatriation, valid for the entire stay in Korea

Applicants are required to submit the necessary supporting documents to the South Korean consular post in their country of residence. Upon approval, the visa will be issued. After entry into South Korea, the digital nomad visa holder must apply for residence card. The visa may be renewed annually for up to three years from the holder’s first entry into South Korea, provided the eligibility requirements continue to be met.

The program aims to attract highly skilled professionals and creatives to experience South Korea, encouraging them to settle in local communities and contribute to the country’s long-term growth.
