Malaysia – EP Salary Revision

In our spotlight on the APAC series, we round up the latest developments across the Asia Pacific Region. In this edition, we focus on the recent updates to Malaysia’s Employment Pass minimum salary requirements, which will take effect on 1 June 2026.

The Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia has announced a significant revision to the minimum salary thresholds for Employment Pass (EP) Categories I, II and III. These changes will impact companies that employ foreign professionals and foreign knowledge worker.

Revised Employment Pass (EP) Minimum Salary Requirements

Employment Pass (EP) Category Current Minimum Salary Revised Minimum Salary (Effective 1 June 2026)
I RM10,000 and above RM20,000 and above
II RM5,000 to RM9,999 RM10,000 to RM19,999
III RM3,000 to RM4,999 RM5,000 to RM9,999

 

The revised salary thresholds will apply to all new and renewal applications submitted from 1 June 2026 onwards, which must comply with the updated minimum salary requirements.

Companies are advised to review and adjust their workforce structures and compensation frameworks accordingly to mitigate potential disruptions to upcoming engagements and renewals applications.
