In our spotlight on the APAC series, we round up the latest developments across the Asia Pacific Region.
The Malaysian government department has introduced a mandatory requirement for companies to adhere strictly to the pass endorsement process payment timeline and applicant presence in Malaysia during the processing for pass renewal or new application with immediate effect.
Endorsement Payment Process Timeline
- Pass endorsement must be completed within one (1) month from either of the following dates, as applicable:
- The date of the applicant’s entry into Malaysia; or
- The date approval for pass renewal/new (i.e. change of category/pass/company)
Failure to meet this deadline may result in the cancellation of the approved application. In such cases, companies will be required to submit a new application, which may affect the overall processing time.
Applicant’s presence in Malaysia during processing period
- Applicant must remain in Malaysia throughout the entire pass endorsement process, including the issuance of pass sticker (endorsement)
- If travelled is required due to urgent or exceptional circumstances:
- The company must inform authorities immediately
- Approval is not guaranteed and depends on stage application and/or immigration requirements
If the applicant’s leaves Malaysia during processing period, the application may be cancelled due to reference visa requirements.
Once the application has been submitted to the immigration authorities, no amendments are allowed. To amend, the current application must be cancelled and refilled.
Companies are therefore strongly advised to ensure that foreign national applicants remain in the country until endorsement is complete to avoid cancellation, processing disruption and the need for re-submission of application.
