In our spotlight on the APAC series, we round up the latest developments across the Asia Pacific Region. In this post, we look at the recent updates on Indonesia’s multiple entry visa rules; visit stay permit extension.
Indonesia has relaxed its visit stay permit rules for multiple-entry visa holders, enabling travellers to stay up to 180 days without leaving the country. Visitors can extend their stay twice, with each extension granting 60 additional days. Although the permissible duration of stay per visit has been extended, the multiple-entry visa remains valid for one year from the date of issuance.
While some visa extension applications can be processed online or by agents, certain visa categories will require the applicant to visit the local immigration office in-person. This in-person process may include, documents verification, biometric data collection, and interviews, especially if there are inconsistencies in the documentation.
Examples of activities that may require a physical visit include:
- Business and Investment related visit
- Foreign worker trial and internships
- Machinery installation or after-sales service
- Audits, inspections, or quality control tasks
- Participations in seminars, training, or short courses
For non-essential visits, such as tourism or family-related travel, a personal appearance may not be required and is subject to the discretion of the local immigration office.
